The Okavango Delta

  • Moremi: one of the most beautiful game parks in Africa
  • Paradisical oasis and wildlife haven

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world - a magical world of interlinking channels filled with champagne-coloured water and reeded islands sheltering exotic animals and birds. The 15 000km² delta seasonally fills with water after the rains, during which the delta is at its most exquisite. The heart of the delta can be reached by air only and this seclusion coupled with its astounding natural beauty accounts for its exclusivity. There are a number of game reserves, but Moremi Game Reserve is considered the most spectacular - it is a 3 000km² pristine wilderness area with plentiful game and over 500 bird species.

Chobe National Park

  • One of Africa's great game reserves
  • Includes the stunning Savuti Channel

Chobe is one of Africa's great game reserves - a 11 700km² haven for especially elephants: huge herds of which can be readily seen in the park. But Chobe is also well-known for other game and is a favourite Big Five destination. Within the Chobe, you will also find the Savuti Channel, a fascinating waterway that perodically dries up or fills up with water - for no clear or understandable reason. Chobe has a wide range of habitats, animals, bird and landscapes - and the Linyanti and Chobe rivers, along with the Savuti Channel, flow through it.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

  • World's largest saltpan

Once a huge lake that subsequently dried up, the pans now seasonally fill with water after summer, and the thriving fish and aquatic shrimp populations subsequently provide a fertile feeding ground for thousands of waterbirds. The huge flocks of flamingoes that are attracted to the salt pans make an attractive sight and are a photographer's delight. The Makgadikgadi pans consist of main pans, Sowa, Nxai and Ntwetwe and many smaller depressions that are favourite watering holes for antelope and the predators that are never far behind…

Tuli Block

  • Contains many game reserves

The Tuli Block is situated along a 350km stretch in the eastern part of the country and shelters a number of well-known game reserves like the Mashatu Game Reserve, Tuli East Game Reserve and Tuli Game Reserve. The landscape is an interesting mix of savannah, shrubland, riverine forest and acacia woodland. The Tuli Block is especially known for vast elephant populations.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve

  • Botswana's largest reserve
  • Was created to protect the San (Bushmen)

This huge, 51 800km² reserve has a variety of different habitats ranging from sandy deserts to savannah plains and pans. The reserve was initially created in 1961 to provide a haven for the San (Bushmen) whose shrinking habitat was becoming a serious threat to the future of these ancient people. It includes regions like Deception Valley, which have become well-known as game viewing locations.
